Taiwan is advancing next-generation smart medical platforms and National Health Insurance (NHI) smart healthcare amid rapid digital development. Minister Shi pointed out the necessity of national data standardization, promoting connections to a central data hub using FHIR format. Specific plans include medical centers building AI centers and RWD databases from 2024–2026, utilizing FHIR interface standards. Furthermore, starting in 2025, regional/district hospitals are expected to use public versions built on FHIR standards and USCDI (US Core Clinical Data Interoperability) for their record cores. In the NHI smart healthcare sector, initiatives include promoting holistic care via a family medicine platform and supporting self-management through health records linked with Google/Apple. Home acute care has been implemented, and a dedicated 'Home Healthcare Information Platform' is planned for 2026. Furthermore, the digitization of administrative processes and clinical workflows—such as the trial of a national medical cost information platform and the spread of e-prescriptions—is strengthening Taiwan's smart healthcare infrastructure. Additionally, hospital leaders highlighted the critical need for regional care systems in an aging society. Initiatives include using AI for disease risk prediction models and cloud-based diagnostic support for remote areas, demonstrating efforts to connect technology with community needs.
