Ministry of Health Promotes SMART Healthcare Applications: Zhongshan Hospital Selected for 'Taiwan 50' Showcasing Digital Medical Capabilities

The first 'Taiwan 50 Excellent SMART Application' selection and award ceremony was held based on the 'SMART APP' international standard framework promoted by the Ministry of Health (MOH). This event symbolizes the progress in cross-hospital data interoperability and clinical application sharing within Taiwan’s healthcare sector. The evaluation covers diverse aspects, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Clinical Decision Support (CDS), data visualization, and medical management. All participating applications must comply with the FHIR international standard and pass rigorous testing. With the introduction of the 'SMART APP' architecture, Taiwan's medical system is transitioning from traditional decentralized systems to an integrated platform. The MOH plans to complete electronic health record connectivity across all academic medical centers this year, expanding eventually to regional hospitals and primary care clinics. This will allow patients to access their complete medical records in real-time at any facility, provided authorization is given, thereby preventing redundant tests and improving efficiency and quality. Zhongshan Hospital leveraged its long experience in developing smart healthcare applications to achieve the three selections. This success demonstrates its capabilities in AI assistance, clinical decision optimization, and process improvement. The hospital's achievement highlights Taiwan's efforts to build a competitive smart healthcare ecosystem by adopting the SMART on FHIR standard internationally.
