Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital's AI System 'LHIT' Promotes Holistic Care: Selected as Excellent SMART App

The LHIT system developed by Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital aims to grasp a patient’s health status across their 'entire life cycle,' moving beyond mere one-time test results. The system dynamically integrates all test data from various departments within the hospital, visualizing individual health trends as curves and charts. This allows patients and families to gain clearer understanding of their physical condition. Technically, LHIT was developed based on the international standard SMART on FHIR architecture. This structure enables not only metabolic syndrome risk assessment but also the visualization of complex medical data—such as 'metabolic health,' 'cardiovascular health,' and 'liver/kidney function'—using star ratings (1-5) and long-term trend line graphs. Furthermore, according to the AI Center Project Manager, the system provides real-time clinical decision support using CQL (Clinical Query Language) logic and ensures standardized interoperability by adopting the FHIR common format. This FHIR-based design suggests potential for cross-hospital data connection and analysis under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. It realizes a vision where 'personal health management' is not limited to a single hospital but can develop into continuous care provided by family or personal physicians. The system also adheres to information security standards, utilizing Taiwan's sandbox environment.
