AIT Data Platform Launched by Industrial Technology Research Institute and Taiwan Medical Device Association

Responding to the wave of generative AI in healthcare, ITRI, along with the Taiwan Medical Device Association (TMDA), is launching the 'AI Smart Healthcare Data Platform.' The platform integrates various types of data, including medical equipment data and clinical care information, providing it in a format compliant with FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) standards. This allows developers to bypass the complex initial processes of collecting, cleaning, and standardizing data, significantly shortening the timeline for AI model training and medical product development/validation. The platform goes beyond mere data aggregation; ITRI acts as a neutral third party, providing core technical support across multiple domains such as 5G communication, smart imaging, physiological monitoring, and AI analysis. This enables cross-analysis of multi-modal physiological signals (e.g., ECG, blood pressure). Developers can thus efficiently validate the generalizability of their AI models across different equipment types and clinical settings. TMDA pointed out that data fragmentation and lack of standardization have historically been major bottlenecks for AI development. The platform addresses this by providing a common data structure based on FHIR international standards, aiming to break down 'data silos' and convert medical data into valuable clinical assets (Real-World Evidence, RWE). This effort is designed to enhance the overall competitiveness of Taiwan’s smart healthcare industry.
