AI-Powered Healthcare Data Platform Built: Accelerating Smart Medicine with FHIR Standard

This platform was initiated by the Taiwan Medical Materials Association (臺灣醫材公會), working with ITRI and multiple medical device companies. It adopts FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) as its core international standard, creating a common data structure to integrate diverse data from various equipment and settings—including physiological monitoring, ECG, medical imaging, ultrasound, operating room data, and telemedicine. ITRI serves as the neutral third-party entity, providing technical support for data standardization and FHIR implementation. This mechanism allows industry players to access diverse data (e.g., multi-modal physiological signals like ECG, blood pressure, SpO2) that previously required separate collection and organization, making them 'ready-to-use.' This significantly reduces the time and cost associated with AI model training and clinical validation (which traditionally took 1–2 years). It is expected to become a common language for domestic medical material companies to validate the generalization capability of AI models, thereby accelerating technology commercialization and clinical application in Taiwan's smart healthcare industry. This initiative strongly supports the advancement and practical implementation of innovative technologies within Taiwan’s smart healthcare sector.
