Taiwan Medical Materials Association Launches AI Smart Healthcare Data Platform Based on FHIR

臺灣醫材公會推AI智慧醫療數據大平台| 醫藥生技 - 經濟日報

Summary

The Taiwan Medical Materials Association, in collaboration with institutions like ITRI (Industrial Research Institute), has launched the 'AI Smart Healthcare Data Platform.' This platform is designed to be the first of its kind, using FHIR as a core international standard to connect medical equipment data, clinical care information, and AI applications.

Details

The Taiwan Medical Materials Association initiated this effort with various industry players, including ITRI, to accelerate smart healthcare innovation. The 'AI Smart Healthcare Data Platform' is built around the international standard FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), aiming to connect diverse data sources: medical equipment data, clinical care information, and AI analysis applications. This allows participating companies to access standardized data immediately, significantly reducing the typical 1-2 year process required for data collection and standardization. The platform involves over nine companies—including Chunghwa Telecom, Jinhong Technology, Medtronic, etc.—integrating diverse domains such as physiological monitoring, ECG, medical imaging, ultrasound, operating rooms, and telemedicine. ITRI acts as a neutral third-party entity, providing core technical support for data integration, standardization, and FHIR implementation. This common data structure enables domestic medical material companies to perform cross-analysis using multi-modal physiological signals (like ECG and blood pressure) or rapidly validate AI model generalization capabilities using accumulated anomaly event data. The ultimate goal is to reduce R&D costs and time by establishing a 'common language' for the Taiwanese smart healthcare industry, thereby accelerating the commercialization and clinical application of innovative technologies.
